Born in Senegal, Didier Raoult is a French physician, infectiologist and microbiologist. He is Professor of Medicine and director of the IHU Méditerranée Infection. He is one of the world’s top specialists on infectious diseases and, in 2010, he was awarded the INSERM (French National Institute for Health and Medical Research) Grand Prix for his entire career.

From the beginning of the pandemic, he has been trying to explain to the public why certain safe treatments for covid are prohibited.

He is the author of the book “Carnets de guerre Covid-19” in which he gives valuable information on this epidemic and the dangers of an exploited panic that could be even more serious than the pandemic in the future:

Raoult is a great supporter of the anti-malarial drug hydroxychloroquine as early treatment for Covid-19, which produced incredible results worldwide. Chloroquine is not a new drug. Its use dates back to the Second World War and, like quinine, a centuries-old antimalarial, it is extracted from the bark of the quinchona tree. That means the drug is relatively cheap because is now generic.

Many patients hospitalised at the IHU were treated with hydroxychloroquine and azithromycin (HCQ + AZ) with excellent results and the mortality rate was much lower in this hospital than in the rest of France:

“By administering hydroxychloroquine combined with azithromycin, we were able to observe an improvement in almost all cases”

He has been saying that COVID-19 “is probably the easiest respiratory infection of all to treat” and that it has be been beaten, not by a vaccine that will take years to develop, but by a well-known drug that has been prescribed for various conditions for decades, the HCQ. But Hydroxychloroquine has been censored and politicized.

“That it is not moral that this combination of drugs is not systematically included in the therapeutic trials concerning the treatment of Covid-19 infection in France. In short, we are taking matters into our own hands”.

Professor Raoult testified that, shortly after he started to talk about HCQ as a treatment, he received death threats. He filed a complaint with the police for “death threats” and “acts of intimidation against a public service official” and an enquiry was opened by the French judiciary. Raoult confessed that the threats were coming from a top recipient of Gilead Pharmaceuticals, a vaccine manufacturer, that has a dark history of allegations of bioterrorism.

Currently, he is still at the heart of many controversies and accused by his peers of spreading false information about the benefits of the drug. He is facing being pushed out of the Infectious Diseases Institute he founded. Some politicians even suggested that Raoult should “shut his face and be a doctor”.
